Why more and more kids wear ear muffs at live sports?
Children are more likely to be vulnerable to excessive noise exposure as their ear canals are not fully developed.
It’s not hard to find that more children at sports events now are wearing earmuffs or earplugs. Given that noise-induced hearing loss is irreversible but preventable, hearing protection is vital to children’s development. Then what is the safe decibel level for children and what can parents do to protect the little ones hearing?
According to the World Health Organization, adults should not be exposed to sounds with a peak sound pressure level above 140 dB. As for children, the level is reduced to 120 dB. What's more, the safe decibel level recommended for children is about 60dB and the exposure time to excessive noise levels should be considered too. Research also shows that sounds at or above 85 dB for extended periods of time require use of hearing protection.
Generally speaking, there are two types of hearing protection on the market, earplugs and earmuffs. Earplugs are a small piece of equipment that you wear inside your ears, while earmuffs are meant to wear on your head and cover your ears. On behalf of comfortability and convenience, earmuffs are recommended. For more information about these two types, you could refer to our previous blogs. For reference, here we list three pairs of earmuffs from ProCase, a brand that commits to design earmuffs for children.
And last but not least, these earmuffs are all available in multiple colors or patterns. It is definitely a great gift idea for your little ones, keeping their hearing protected in a stylish and comfortable way.
